Swimmer

September 22, 2021

A swimmer glides above strange delineated spaces.  And just a century ago Clarence Larkin unfurled his prophetic blueprint of creation and judgement on long paper charts.

Today they’re inscribed on the apocalyptic mindset of many.

It’s Alpha and Omega’s Kingdom Come, sings Johnny Cash.

Ancient biblical texts reduced to thin lines and cartoons.  The cosmos on a flow chart. Fundamentalist eschatology thumbtacked to a walls of paranoia and conspiracy.

When I was young I wanted a belief that simple

But all that’s marvelous in heaven and earth gets snarled up and sinks by lines drawn like these.

The days require backstrokes. Keeping your head up and moving toward to the distant though approaching shoreline.
